Outline of Akrotiri and Dhekelia

Akrotiri and Dhekelia is a British Overseas Territory on the island of Cyprus, administered as a Sovereign Base Area. It comprises two separate areas, the Eastern Sovereign Base Area and the Western Sovereign Base Area. The bases were retained by the UK following the independence of Cyprus in 1960, because of the strategic location of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Western Sovereign Base Area includes Akrotiri (Greek: Ακρωτήρι; Turkish: Agrotur and Episkopi Cantonment, while the Eastern Sovereign Base Area includes Dhekelia (Greek: Δεκέλεια; Turkish: Dikelya, and Ayios Nikolaos.
